Rodrigo Mercado Fernández is a professor in the Department of Industrial Engineering at Tecnológico de Monterrey, Campus Guadalajara. With the Fullbright García-Robles scholarship he obtained his Ph.D. in Industrial Engineering in Operations Research at The University of Massachusetts at Amherst in 2020.
His doctoral thesis focused on analyzing development pathways for the Mexican electrical grid to achieve national climate change goals for the year 2050. In his doctoral thesis he incorporated issues of sustainability, multi-criteria decision making and equity.
Rodrigo was also a postdoctoral fellow at the Appalachian Energy Center at Appalachian State University where he conducted research related to the link between energy and health.
He is co-author of "The Sustainability of Decarbonizing the Grid: A Multi-Model Decision Analysis Applied to Mexico" (2022) published in Renewable and Sustainable Energy Transition and "Robust Regional Power Planning to Meet Climate Goals" (2022) published in Energy and Climate Change.
